Ok once you think your out of this game they go and announce something like Dust 514 and draaaagggg you back in. So I started playing Eve-Online again absolutely making sure that I don’t get addicted again. The back story is this I was at school in a retail and business management program. I was rushing to finish a financial cost benefit analysis of moving a company from Toronto to Montreal based on resources and other factors. I was also doing this at the same time for a friends corp. in the game. I handed in the wrong spread sheet and still got an “-A” with a little note that if I stuck to the subject matter I would have gotten an “+A” but could the professor borrow the spreadsheet template since he was working on 1 for his corp. to. After dropping my jaw that he played the game again I gave the teacher the template and went home and cancelled my account. I didn’t look back for 4 years. I then got wind of the Dust 514 rumours and saw the unveiling at EveFest this year after a month struggling with the issue 2 people at work started playing and talking about it. One of which has his name on the front part of the building and I used to play with him during the beta and he knew I had a character still but didn’t play anymore.
Well after trying to not give in I gave in and started an account and first thing I noticed was there wasn’t a big change with the UI it still had the same feel and I was having fun doing level 4 agent missions. I than looked at the clock, I had logged in at around 8PM Tuesday. It was 5:10 AM Weds and I only noticed this since my alarm clock went off to wake me up, only problem I hadn’t gone to bed yet. So this is where I decide that I have to nip this in the bud. I figure I am only going to play on my days off and if I don’t only 1 hour in an evening. So far its been 2 months in and I have stuck to that I’ve only gone over the 1 hour routine twice but it was a storyline mission and it took almost an hour to travel from a to b.
With Dominion Expansion coming out today and me about to go and try it I’am looking forward to my Eve experiences again I’ve touched base with a few old friend who are still playing and a few that just started up again like me, some for the same reasons and some for just the hell of it. The major things I’ve always liked of Eve-online over other MMO’s is that you don’t have to play for the expansions. The skill system doesn’t require grinding. Not that Grinding isn’t part of it mining is grindtastic. But it doesn’t always feel like work that WoW felt now aside from my school fiasco and I was running a corp. at the time it actually became a job but I am avoiding that now by just playing by myself doing what I want to do but occasionally helping a friend out its more to blow off steam than achieve some goal in the game.
Cheers
