Tuborg Gold

Ok heres a request that I’ve gotten and a story so first the story from Jim of Ottawa

The Story

1985, my wife and friends Dave and Joyce are travelling the countryside in Portugal when we come across this beautiful cobble-stoned town, famous for shoes.

Only interested in beer, Dave and I send the girls on their way with coin, a kiss and a promise to remain put at this very old outdoor cafe.   Dave says "Don't forget us', HUH, I got the keys.

What can I serve you, the owner said In broken, but understandable English.

Two beers, what type? SURPRISE us, I will return in a moment gentlemen. Gentlemen!! (if he only knew)

TUBORG GOLD, remember that name. 11/2 hours later, 4 BORG'S each and still no sign of the girls.  OH, oh, here they come bags in hand, quick order a couple of travelers (after all neither one of us can drive in this condition).

One of the smoothist and most distinctive tastes I can ever recall.  The Beer Store does carry a couple of varieties and I do recommend picking up a 6 pack or two.

Ok so here is a little on the history of the brewery and beer.

Tuborg Brewery was founded in 1873 by Carl Tietgen originally it was producing a pale lager. In 1894 it was then merged with United Breweries, which had a profit sharing agreement with Carlsberg at 1903. Carlsberg bought United Breweries in 1970.

The Beer

The beer itself is a %5.5 lager and has a nice pale golden colour to it, with a bit of a hoppy taste. It has a little bit of a bitter aftertaste but that’s common in many Danish beers and it is a good thing. Very smooth with a pleasant aroma, I agree with Jim that you should go and get at least one 6 pack. I tried this with a nice T-bone steak and baked potato I also used a little bit of it to marinate the steak. It did very well in this regard but I wouldn’t relegate it to marinating duty since it is a very fine beer for drinking indeed. I have yet to taste a bad Danish beer. Tuborg Gold definitely gets high marks.

I appreciate the story Jim and I hope to see more from people you never know it might get put up on the website or read during the podcast.

50 for 50 Contest Winner: Budweiser

I said I would never review bud the contest is an out its more of a story but this is the best one sent for the contest Congrats again Robert.

Hi Here is my entry for the 50 for 50 contest

I first tried Budweiser when I was at a party in High School a friend of mine’s brother was over 21 so he got us some. Everyone seemed to like it except me so I figured I just didn’t like beer. During my first year of college I was again offered beer but it was Coor’s and I really liked it, after a while I tried a Bud again and still didn’t like it. I’ve always wondered what beer would taste like after being passed through a body at least twice before it was bottle and packed in a truck and shipped across the continent. I have always wondered why so many people can be so wrong and have something so bad that I have a huge deep down fear for the fate of the human race. I’ve been told that it’s not very popular outside America and that makes me feel a little better about it but than again I remember we voted Bush in twice and he only had to hit a big red reset button by accident. I wouldn’t encourage anyone to drink it.

Thanks reading this.

James Ready Original Ale

James Ready Original Ale

James Ready as I have stated in the past has been a friend during good and bad times in my life. I don’t think I’ve ever made a more alcoholic statement but I’am sure it sill not be the worst over my lifetime. James Ready original ale is a %5.0 Ale with a refreshing taste. A little hoppy but smooth and clean I found. It’s pretty good with corn and seafood. I haven’t mentioned the brewer origins or where its made since I covered that in the James Ready 5.5 review. It’s a fine member of the ready family though

Greene King IPA

Greene King IPA

Greene King Brewery has been brewing since 1799 in Suffolk, England. Greene King IPA is one of the best selling brands in the UK at this time and lets face it the British know there beer. Greene King IPA is a better India Pale Ale and has a %5 alcohol content. IT has a golden colour and is classed as a bitter beer which is a little more popular overseas then here in North America but is a refreshing change from alot of the macrobrewing behemoths that consider taste a byproduct. Anywho I digress. It is a little bitter but has a clean crisp taste while cold and also can be served warm like it is overseas. I definately recommend it for anyone wanting to try something a little different.

James Ready 5.5

James Ready 5.5

I asked a friend of mine do you like James Ready and he replied I consider him a friend. This is a statement that falls in line with the brand James Ready 5.5 is a discount lager. That features jokes and sayings underneath the caps labels usually things like and I qoute" remove that awful tattoo you gave yourself." and "Create a shelter for J.R. drinkers who have fallen and can't reach there beer." James Ready is an East Coast tasting strong lager from Niagra Falls weighing in a %5.5 alcohol. it has a slight mixture of bitter and fruity taste to it with a clean finish. I definately consider this beer a friend since its good its cheap and its availiable almost everywhere in Canada.
