Barking Squirrel

Ok the Blog on Barking Squirrel was long and this will have none of the atmosphere and random ramblings I went on.

The beer

The beer is a craft beer that is meant to be a craft beer without all the glitz and glamour. Barking Squirrel Lager is brewed by The Hop City brewery it has a darkish orangy colour with a hoppy taste and a fruity finish it is a %5 lager that is again only available at pubs and restaurants.  Hop City is also coming out with another beer I here soon called lawn chair “Classic” Weisse  so I look forward to trying it. A link to their location finder is also going to be posted on the bottom of this review.

Heritage Premium Lager

Now I picked this up 2 minutes before closing at my local LCBO I've had the dark ale from this brewer but haven't tried the lager. Heritage Brewing Limited is a relatively new craft brewer from Ottawa, Ontario and so far I've only seen 2 beers come out of there brewery. From their facebook page they also are either affiliated with the Scotch Irish Brewery out of Carleton Place or the companies are social friends since they are both pretty small at the moment. I wasn't able to find any history on this brewer other than they came to Ottawa in 2007 I think there's a Ottawa Citizen article in Google but its a dead link. Ok the beer Its a %4.5 lager with a refreshing taste a little bitter with a hoppy finish. It has a light golden almost coppery colour and a bit of a fruity aroma. It went very well with steak and baked potato. I would definitely give it a try and if your in the Ottawa area help support a local brewery.

Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Samuel Adams Boston Lager is a %4.8 Lager and probably one of the most famous brands in the world. If you remember Pawtucket Patriot from Family Guy this is the beer that spawned the parody in brand names. It has a very distinct flavour quite hoppy with a bitter taste and aftertaste. Named after Samuel Adams one of The United States more famous fore- fathers, first started brewing in Boston in 1984. Now most of the production is produced in their Cincinnati brewery. I personally didn’t like this beer I found it quite harsh tasting and I like bitter but this was a bad combination of Hoppy, Bitter and Yeasty.

Piton Beer Of St. Lucia

Well my grandparents just came back from St. Lucia and brought me a 6 pack of the local beer there named after the Piton Mountains in the Caribbean. Piton is brewed by the Windward and Leeward Brewery in St. Lucia. My grandparents said that the only 2 beers on the island available were Heineken and Piton. After a little digging I found that the Windward and Leeward Brewery was founded by Heineken in 1974 and started brewing in 1975. Piton Beer is a %5.0 pilsner lager with a very crisp and refreshing taste. With a bit of a flowery hoppy aroma, I had a bit of a citrus taste to it but that just could be me. Now unfortunately this is not available in Canada or the US but if you are ever in the Caribbean this is a must have must try.

Molson 67

Molson 67

I am going to start off with the history of the brewery than the review.

Molson Canada is the oldest brewery in North America and the second oldest company in Canada next to the Hudson’s Bay Company.

Founded in 1786 by John Molson in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Molson’s to this day continues to brew beer at the original brewery. Even after updates and renovations over the last 224 years, the original cellars used to store the beer oh so may years ago remain intact.

Today Molson Canada is the Canadian division of the fifth largest brewing company in the world the Molson-Coors Brewing Company. The humble beginnings of this family run brewery on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Where the family still maintains it’s headquarters today. From leaving his Lincolnshire, England home to immigrate to Canada in 1782 and to found a small brewery in 1786 to becoming one of the industries giants 200 years later. It truly is a great Canadian success story.

Molson 67 is a 3% lager, each bottle contains only 67 calories in relation to most beers which kick in at roughly 115-160 calories. Surprisingly Guinness is at the low end of the spectrum who’d a thunk it. It also weighs in at 1% of your daily value of carb’s which is pretty jaw dropping since your average beer in fact Molson Canadian the companies main beer is 150 calories and 4% of the daily value of carb’s. It has a clean and refreshing taste it tastes in fact a lot like Canadian maybe a little bit watery but I’ve had regular beer that tasted more watery. With most light beers you end up sacrificing taste for the lightness in this case you don’t.
